Dealing with sowing and reaping
Sowing and reaping is clearly spelled out in the word of God yet many still jumble up this precious exchange. As a principal for growth in the Christian Life.
This subject is the most controversial in the church and the world yet it ought not to be. Many who have found it so, have basically come to this conclusion based either on their unfortunate experience or on sheer ignorance. Either way, we are not to live by human experience unless it is backed by the word of God. Well as for ignorance, it is said in the circles of law that ignorance is no defense, don't take it from the world. Here it is in the Bible (1 Corinthians 14:38) let him who be ignorant be ignorant still.
I have found that the extent to which a man's soul is meagre, mean, illiberal, or selfish is the extent he or she will find the prosperity message offensive or controversial at best. Such people very often fight those who are liberal or generous for they can't seem to understand why they continue giving even when in their sight, these liberal/generous people are just being taken advantage of.
When you search further you realise that those who have been generous or liberal tend to be loved by everyone and never seem to run out of what to give. The meagre souls on the other hand tend to be ignored in life and seemingly never have enough to give. Basically they are the "party poopers" and nobody seems to care about them not even their own family. When they are sick or in need that is when everybody is busy. You see, there is a principal to liberality, generosity often breeds spirituality.
Proverbs 11:24(KJV) There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. 25The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
Allow me show you how these things are intertwined.
You see, before you understand the relationship between sowing and reaping for a financial harvest, you have to understand the spirituality of the same. For it is by this principal that salvation is even possible.
1 Corinthians 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. 24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
Many people who have challenges in their salvation (walk with God) have yet to acknowledge that, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life (John3:16).
"The greatest sign that God is love is that God gave".
This scripture means more than just agreeing with it. It's the most quoted verse to Christians and the most unknown at the same time. (Maybe I will unwrap this another time).
Anyways now you have a clue about what am saying. It is true that spiritual growth goes hand in hand with sowing and reaping/giving. There is a mystery Jesus alludes to called the "true riches" in Luke 16:11. He suggested that if one cannot be trusted with unrighteous mammon, who can trust him with "true riches". There are quite a number of interesting stories in the Bible where God heals a king (Hezekiah) and reverses a judgement of death because the king had done good for the house of the Lord (Isaiah 38), another one in (Acts 9:36) of a woman named Tabitha who was healed and raised from the dead as the people testified of her giving. They basically refused to see such a giver die, and finally Cornelius in (Acts 10). This one saw a vision and an angel said to him that his giving has come up for a memorial before the Lord, it's amazing. I tell you, show me a blind man in the spirit and I will show you a stingy, selfish meagre and illiberal man. Sowing not only increases your financial harvest but also makes you a candidate for spiritual experiences and Divine visitations beyond what you could imagine. I always say, "A CHRISTIAN LIFE WITHOUT DIVINE EXPERIENCES IS A TICKING TIME BOMB".
As I make my conclusions. You are left with one thing only, being an effective sower/giver and reaper of God's blessings whether financial or spiritual.
Ecclesiastes 11:4(KJV) He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.
Sowing and reaping though very rewarding can be thought provoking in their operation.
However God shows us how to begin, that if you are to be an effective sower you must desist from observing the wind. And in order to reap a harvest, resist the urge of regarding the cloud. These terminologies used in the word expressly depict a farmer who sows and reaps by elements of weather. In that, when it's raining it's harvest and so on. God calls us to a place where he expects us to harvest no matter the season and to sow no matter the season. That is why Isaac in (Genesis 26) is able to sow in a dry land and reap a hundredfold.
Ecclesiastes 11:1-6 is the perfect expression of a liberal, generous soul and how that soul lives his life. He says, 1 Cast your bread upon many waters for you shall find it after many days. 2Spread out your potions for you know not what will come. Just imagine how frustrated farmers are who can't predict the weather anymore, or the investor who lost all his life savings in the housing crisis of 2008. 3 If the clouds be full of your seed be sure that they will empty themselves upon the Earth
Verse 6 says, sow in the morning and also in the evening don't withhold your hand.
Mat 6:33 KJV But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Pro 11:24 KJV There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
Pro 11:25 KJV The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
NOTE: There is no doubt that these truths will always be cringe worthy to the sceptic, unbeliever and at best controversial to the stiffly religious mind, but not to the true seeker of the divine mysteries of the Kingdom.
